Have loved every pair of Swiftwick socks I've owned. Long wearing. Great quality;

I typically wear Merino wool running/cycling socks in the winter for running. Some background: Pearl Izumi's Elite Thermal Wool socks have been my go-to socks down to -10F. I use them while running through puddles ice snow etc... at temperatures under 45F. In the past 8 years or so I've only had to buy 2 pairs. They typically handle about 3 to 4 years without any problems and they then get a bit thin or stretched. My latest pair have gone through an entire Marathon and 10 mile race as well as hundreds of training runs. So I needed a new pair and Pearl Izumi doesn't seem to carry their socks as readily anymore and there are lots of complaints about their latest Elite Thermal Wool socks being cheapened. I gave these Swiftwicks a try but found a lot of deficiencies:

1). They are paper thin almost like dress socks. Yes they are padded at the bottom but the tops are almost like mesh.

2). They aren't that warm. Maybe for a brisk morning run they might be fine but when it is down to -10F ambient with a windchill and possible slush/ice I need something warmer.

Overall: 3/5 stars. Needs to be thicker for more warmth more Merino Wool content needed as well.;

Very warm! Wore them in a winter trail race that went through water calf high and my feet never felt cold!!;
