Usually I'm not a fan of Park tools (don't get me started) I much prefer Shimano for superior design and durability. To say nothing of the REAL pro quality bike tools from VAR remember VAR ? Those were the days; think Snap-on quality from France.
Anyway . . . after my experience yesterday I had to leave a five star rating for this Park tool. I've been using these since they hit the market decades ago but had never actually taken one to the absolute "breaking point ".
We had to remove an old school crank bearing adjusting cup that had seized in the frame. Held fast not so much from corrosion but that the bearings had been adjusted way way way too tight for decades and ridden now and then. The bearing cup expanded into the bottom bracket threads of the frame. Who Knew ? ! (that's a joke son)
Long story short we had a Stein Fixed Cup Wrench Clamp on it to keep the large end of the HC-W11 from popping off the flats. Then the Park frame alignment lever (like a meter long) as a cheater bar. The bike was up on the work stand with two guys to hold the bike.
Still the ADJUSTING CUP wouldn't turn at all. Was soaked with WD-40 inside and out of course. The Park tool was starting to feel like it was sustaining very significant permanent damage and since I like my tools crisp and in good condition I decided to take it to failure and buy a new wrench.
Danged if after several more heroic efforts on my part it didn't at long last turn the cup and did not fail. The cup was hard turning for several revolutions all the way necessitating the meter long cheater bar.
On inspection afterward the HC-W11 was still usable and in astonishingly good condition.
