The CNW-2 makes chainring bolt and nut installation and removal easy. It securely holds the unique slotted chainring nuts in place to prevent slipping while tightening or loosening the bolt. Double-ended to fit most slotted-type nuts.

  • The outer width of both ends of the CNW-2 are nominally 12 mm wide
  • One end has a two outer tips nominally 2.7 mm wide each, and the other end has tips of 3.8 mm each
  • The blade thickness is nominally 1.35 mm

If you tinker with your bike any Park Tools (or their knockoffs) are probably in your tool collection. The quality is generally there with solid construction that will last. Some in my collection are over 40 years old now and still going. This is one of those niche tools that does its job well although you will probably only use it every few years. I purchased this to replace a lost version since I had need of replacing worn out chainrings.

In use it just works as advertised holding the nuts on the crank while loosening or tightening up the bolts from the other side. I always toss in some blue threadlock compound (the push up stick kind is so much easier than the liquid as an aside) to make sure the bolts do not loosen over time. A wide flat blade screwdriver might do it in a pinch save for those hidden ring bolts but in my experience this tool is worth the ease of use. More importantly it makes for less stress.;
