They're pretty and I expected that. I moved the other-brand (decent) wide-arm cantis to the front replacing a hub brake installed these on the rear where they don't snag my leg like the wide ones did. Mission accomplished at that point. I took the opportunity to put fresh pads on the front same excellent brand/model as the ones that come on these brakes. I did this on separate days because I wanted to have at least one set of pads without mold-release on them to get decent braking on hills in traffic in the rain (regular morning commute).

The Pauls actually brake more strongly (on the rear!) than the traditional/wide other-brand cantis do on the front. That's pretty impressive. They are also much easier to adjust for tension and centering due to the unique design. They cost several times as much admittedly but for me it's worth it. I have a limited bike budget but I'll replace the front brakes with Pauls eventually. Highly recommended!;
