I mounted these on my mountain unicycle, after growing weary of the metal-studded pedals chewing up my shoes. These have sufficient grip when paired with the trail-running type shoes I wear. They’re not quite as aggressive, of course, but they also don’t shred your shins if you wind up in an awkward position.
So far I haven’t had any problems with grip, and they’re a lot less destructive to shoe soles.;
