I prefer my SLX 2 piston over my SLX 4 piston. The 4 piston are very grabby and the feel really ramps up at the end of the stroke as you pull it into the handlebar--can be scary at times and many near OTB's. The 2 piston is more linear and consistent through out its lever travel. The 2 piston doesn't have the scary ramp up OTB feeling. I found a 203 rotor in the front and 180 in the rear works perfect for me and I've used this combination many times at Downieville with no problems of any kind.;

Hard finding 4 caliper brakes to fit my xc bike... but these Shimano SLX fits perfect on my Giant Stance!! And with a little screw hack i made these into Shimano XTs.. win win!!;

Forget the cheap zoom brakes if you live in hilly areas save up and spend the extra dollars if you think your life is worth it. I built a fat tire 1800 watt electric bike and by the time that I finished installing everything the bike alone weighed 80 pounds. I fluctuate between 220 and 230lbs. The bike with me on it flat out can do 50mph. so that is well over 300 pounds overall. The cable disks were not cutting it so I bought some cheap zoom brakes which stopped waayy better than the cable ones that came on the bike. I live in hilly areas where you can have a 500 foot steep downhill on a regular basis. Well I squeezed so hard last month because I just wasn't stopping fast enough, so hard in fact that the front lever that houses the fluid burst and leaked down the forks to the front disc. Through the grace of God I was already far enough downhill that I could stop safely. NEVER go cheap on the brakes on a heavy bike or if you are a heavy person. Even a thin person needs to stop going 50-60 mph downhill or around curves. Just my 2 cents. I bought these Shimano brakes and they are 10 times better and more confidence inspiring that my cheap ZOOM hydraulic brakes. They break in quickly but do take some getting used to as they are ALOT more grabby, so practice, adjust the grab reach, and get used to them first or in the heat of braking you WILL flip or slid the back tire out.;
