The Velocity A23 rim is an 18mm internal width (23mm external) that is tubeless compatible. It is extremely well made and an absolute pleasure to work with when building wheels. Truing and tensioning the spokes is very easy because the rim is well made to begin with. They look awesome and I can say that they deliver a super comfortable ride. I have used many different rims both alloy and carbon to build wheelsets and these are among the easiest to work with and also deliver the most compliant ride. I have a set fitted with Continental GP5000 25mm and all I can say is they ride like butter. I can not recommend these rims highly enough. Whether you race or train on them they will perform as well as any low profile rim on the market bar none.;

This is a very nice rim that builds strong and light wheels. I bought it for a cx wheelset because it will let me run tubeless. Because of the tight tolerance inside u will need a low profile tape such stans or velotape. Also if you are building a rear wheel i recommend going with the OC version of it and use brass niples.;

I tested this 23mm rim in a CX race versus the 19mm (which I had run on my previous races) and I felt greater control and comfort. Was it psychological? Maybe so but more than half the battle is turning with speed and confidence.

If you haven't given it much thought then do some research and you will find numerous reviews suggesting a wider profile rim helps with control. Even if you don't read up then it should seem rather logical that a wider rim provides a larger area for contact with the ground (Yes even with 2 identical width tires mounted on 19mm and 23mm rims you will get a larger surface contact point when seated in a 23mm rim bed).

Your other option is spending 2x as much on a similar spec'd HED rim which unless somebody enlightens me is the identical rim. In my opinion the Velocity A23 is the better value. (I am considering trying the bikehubstoredotcom they have a 57 dollar rim the BHS C472w.)

There is one issue going from a 19mm to 23mm may incur addition time and expenses setting up your brakes for the wider dimension.

I had no issues with the rim during the building phase and I suspect due to it's popularity Velocity makes a good solid product.;
