I bought this to replace the 8 speed Scram 11-28 gear set on my downhill bike because I needed to be able to climb with more ease. Going from 28 to 34 was a huge improvement and I "did not" need a derailer extender. I think going any larger than 34 tooth would have required it.. I'm very happy with it.;

Worked as expected and I changed the smallest gear to 13 which I already have. Beware that only one gear is separated from others rather than 2 as Shimano cassettes are so be careful if you want to make different combinations.;
