The Shimano SL-R400 downtube shifters on my '86 Trek road bike are worn out (and I lost a washer when re-building) so I got these as replacement.
1. They come with the clamp for clamp-on anywhere on the tube or stem. However like others have mentioned when I take out the plastic tube from the center of the shifters they fit right on the downtube bosses. Bingo!
2. Index mode is louder than the Shimano but works just fine.
3. They look shiny. The levers are not as ergonomic as the Shimano for lack of a better word but again - they work just fine.
All in all very good value for the compatibility quality and function. I bookmarked this one in case of future vintage road bike projects.;

Needed to replace 6 speed DT shifter with 8 speed does the job although it won't fit on braze on mount like I hoped t would.;

Precise shifting well made classic look. You will need to know how many gears you are using these for and then lock out the deraier screws as the directions will state for your chosen dersiler. They shift easily and installed easily on my classic 1983 trek 613.
I was installing Shimano Claris to replace the original friction and the fit well. I made a rubber gasket to protect the new paint job but not necessary. .;

These were a perfect fit for an old panasonic racing bike for my wife. Worked great and easy to install.;

These shifters are worth 5 stars in quality for value. Very shiny and work well. You will need to remove the little circle plastic pieces if you want to put these on down-tube braze ons instead of using the clamp. The clamp will fit most old steel frames but not most aluminum or more modern frames. My 90's rockhopper had 31.8 tubing so did not work with the clamp. They could be a tad smoother but I've never had any issues using these.

DT shifters are totally underrated. Using these things requires one tiny piece of housing... total for the whole shifting setup. They weigh next to nothing and you still get all the benefits of indexed shifters. It also makes bikes easier to disassemble since there are fewer wired things on your bars. You do have to reach down to shift but the process is quick and painless.;
