When REI stopped selling these tires I tried all different brands. I had to go back. I bike commute 30 miles roundtrip every day. These are the most durable tire I can find with the fewest number of flats. I don't care about price these are just a great tough tire. I keep the rear tire under 2000 miles. Over 2000 miles seems to be pushing my luck.;

I put under a 1000 miles on these. Got only 1 flat. Due to improper initial install when I allowed the tube to stick out from under the edge of the tire a little (a common mistake newbies make) I had tube explode and tire rub against frame so that all printing on the sidewall got erased. 500 miles later not a problem. I trust these. There are better tires just not for $15. Weight is acceptable. Rain riding should be slow. I slid just when driving over water drain gutter grill at speed- which was stupid of me because the grill was like at 10 degree slope towards the side of the road. I take it easy in the rain now and do everything slow and don't go over drain grills. Flat resistance is average if not better than average. I get less flats when I run above 100PSI (which is recommended). On other Vittoria I got a flat had no replacement tube and went 5 miles at 5MPH downhill on flat. Rim is fine the tire didn't get sliced and would be of emergency use for an occasion or two- although after such abuse I should have thrown it away. I buy these "used" and the price of around $15 you can afford to abuse and throw away if need be. I'd buy entry level Vittorias under $20 again.;
